And kudos to the husband for making the decision to allow his kids go grow up with their mother as opposed to sacrificing her life for an ever changing religious doctrine! I'm not sure if he was a JW or not. If he was, I wonder what sanctions the congregation took against him?

Honestly you've probably given them enough already to start down the df'ing road. If you were looking to fly under the radar, those responses aren't going to do it.

How Many on JWNet are still JWs?
by RayPublisher ini've been wondering about this for some time.
if there are 60,000+ registered users on here, what percentage are actual non-dfed or non-daed witnesses?
if it was 1/3, that would be over 20,000 active/inactive witnesses that post and read these pages- and that's huge.

JW's who remain in the organisation but try to reform it - pissing against the wind
by jambon1 ini came across a website that presents decent argumentation against three main areas of jw doctrine.. http://jwreform.org/index.html.
who do these people think they are?
do they really believe that the wts will sit up and take notice of their objections?

Evolve to survive, yes. Reform for good, no.

What was something that you loved but were denied as a JW?
by Chemical Emotions ini could go on and on about all the things i loved, but i'll keep it brief and just mention one, rather trivial thing: music.
i love grunge and punk, and occasionally heavy metal, and can't listen to a lot of it as a witness..

Let's see: playing school sports, going to college (even though I now have a degree), not being the odd kid out on every damn thing! Otherwise, nothing!
It certainly could have been worse. My folks are not bad people and I know they thought they were doing what they though was right. My childhood was most definately better than theirs and I'm grateful to them.

Another story you won't see in "Watching the World" - Poverty is being rapidly & radically eliminated
by sir82 in"oh woe oh woe, how bad the world is getting!".
that's the theme of the first 5 pages of every issue of the watchtower and awake for the past 80 years, and the opening 5-10 minutes of every "public" sunday talk for the past 80 years.. but is it really true?
are things just continually getting worse and worse?.

BTW - watching the world was one of my favorite columns the WTS ever produced! Holy cow, I used to think I was so up on current events by reading that!!!
You're point is well taken. The fact is, less people are dying of disease, hunger, etc percentage wise than anytime in human history. Granted, we still have major problems but things are way better now than they were even 100 years ago.

Bethelites - heavy pressure to auxiliary pioneer this past April?
by sir82 inforgot to mention this as a "highlight" of the dc i recently attended.. the speaker was giving details of how many jws served as auxiliary pioneers in april (when the hour requirement was temporarily reduced to 30).. something like 2.5 or 2.7 million of the worldwide population of jws ap'ed that month.. the really surprising thing was, 83% of the us bethel "family" pioneered that month!
57% of the worldwide bethel "family' ap'ed in april.. can you imagine?
40+, maybe 50+ hours of work per week, "family" wt study, the congregation you attend probably 45-60 minutes away...and 83% "volunteered" their services to get 30+ hours of field serve-us in?.

It seems around here, the CO put a huge amount of pressure on local servant bodies (both elders and ms and their wives) to pioneer in April. I have to believe that the Bethelites got even more pressure. I was told by one of the local servant's that said the CO told them during his Friday evening servant meeting that he would be following up with those who didn't a/p in April to find out why!

New 3D smurf movie
by jwfacts inthere is a smurf movie coming in july.
http://www.smurfhappens.com/ they look like the avatar in miniature.. do you think this time around jws will be able to see it, or are they still considered demonised?
will there be a new generation of kids hearing about smurfs running out of kingdom halls, and will they be told about it by the overlapping generation?.
-
Doubting Bro
My wife and I were cracking up at the Smurf trailer we recently saw and shared the crazy stories we were told as kids. Even though she's a believer, she thought the Smurf stories were stupid. We'll be taking the kids to see it. I sure hope they don't jump off the screen and scare the smurf out of me!!

Feet and Toes Research and Noo Lite
by Mad Sweeney inthis has been discussed in the district convention thread but i felt like all the "toes" info would be nice to see in one place.
[from the late 1950s through most of the 1970s the toes of the image meant all coexisting powers and governments at the time of the end].
35 but there was a final or completing part of the symbolic image, namely, its feet partly of iron and partly of clay.

Here's the thing I don't get. What about the 8th King - who they say is the UN? If the statue is supposed to represent all dominate world powers since Babylon and the iron/clay mixture is supposed to represent the democratic/authoritarian nature of the Anglo-American world power, where does the UN fit in.
Wait a second, I'm trying to make sense of something that you simply can't make sense of. Why do I even ask?
